DIY materials for effective noise control in outdoor areas
Moreover, the utilization of active control techniques to induce ultra-wide vibration attenuation zones poses challenges in manufacturing such smart devices, as advanced technology is required45. 5a and b, the transmission loss is nearly identical between the elastic and viscoelastic models in both analyzed directions. Additionally, the opening frequency fop1 observed in the numerical and experimental analyses is identical to that of the analytical model, confirming the existence of the attenuation region. However, the numerical model with the linear solid viscoelastic model in both directions eliminates the flat passbands existing in the linear elastic model in both directions as presented in Fig. Figure 5d shows the transmission spectra with the standard linear solid viscoelastic model at different point probes. The attenuation regions are found to be identical at all probed points in both directions, and the opening bounding edge of the BG fits well with the elastic model, suggesting the proper setup of the linear solid viscoelastic model.

In modern design and research, vibration and noise control of solid structures is a common concern [1–3]. The traditional theory of vibration and noise reduction has become mature after many years of development. It is urgent for the birth of new theories and methods to meet people's needs for low vibration and low-noise environment. In this study, virtual product development method for reducing vibration and noise is proposed for designing at the concept development stage of a vehicle. To this end, the vibration characteristics of the system are predicted through the Lagrange-multiplier frequency-based substructuring technique. The concepts of contact, blocked and transmitted force, and force transmissibility were used for determining the improvement subsystem or combination of subsystems when using the modular platform.
Tuned Mass Dampers for Low-Frequency Vibration Mitigation in Wind Turbine Nacelle Structures
To identify the characteristics of this force at this node, the concept of transmitted force was introduced. This was because contact force was a force generated between two connected parts; thus, if the final response point was not connected to another part, a new concept was needed. It was discussed in the previous section that to find the appropriate combination of subsystems in the database, a strategy to deal with it was necessary. This section aims to present indicators for managing combinations and subsystems when developing virtual system through substructuring and to explain an example through the simplified model. Also, to perform predictions on subsystems in need of improvement, predictions were conducted using the ANN based on previously developed databases. 4c represents the normalized displacement field, with navy blue and red indicating minimum and maximum values, respectively. At the flat pass band of 12.82 kHz, enhanced attenuation performance is observed, with the red color gradient gradually decreasing from the input end to the output end. However, the proposed metastructure still permits incident waves to transmit at this frequency, albeit with a slight reduction in displacement magnitude at the output end. The investigation of the damping effect on the flat pass band is conducted both numerically and experimentally and is discussed in detail in a subsequent section.
In-Ground vs Above Ground Pool Heating Solutions That Cut Energy Costs

Optimize Your Pool Pump and Filter System
- The damping structure has lobes and a rotary mechanism mounted at the blade tip.
- Soft landscaping transforms your pool area into a natural sound sanctuary while maintaining the aesthetic appeal you’ve worked hard to create.
- These parameters encompass the distance l1, horizontal beam thickness w2, angle θ, as well as the thickness of the polymeric casing t.
- In most cases, both sets of modifications can be tested in mock-up form using cardboard (and wide tape) to cover gaps or to extend the guarding.
- This design approach successfully shifted the lower bounding edge of the first BG to a lower frequency region, while the upper bounding edge moved higher, resulting in an ultra-wide complete BG.
- The investigation employs finite element simulations, subsequently validated through an established analytical model and experimental tests.
Proper alignment ensures they’re centered, preventing excessive humming and heat generation. Inspect all mounting bolts, pipe connections, and housing screws monthly for signs of loosening. Use a wrench to carefully tighten any loose components, but avoid overtightening which can damage threads or crack plastic parts. Remember that pool equipment naturally vibrates, causing fasteners to gradually loosen over time, especially after seasonal maintenance. You don’t have to choose between maintaining your pool and enjoying tranquility. With some strategic adjustments and smart solutions, you can significantly reduce your pool pump‘s noise level while maintaining optimal functionality for your swimming pool.

The device is a removable flexible sleeve that wraps around part of the blade and attaches near the leading edge. pool engineering by ProGorki team modifies airflow around the blade to reduce vibrations compared to normal operation. The removable attachment near the leading edge allows easy removal after installation. Vibration damping system for wind turbines that improves damping capacity as wind direction and force change during operation.
- In summary, the main path of the system was found using the contact force at the connection part or the transmitted force at the response point.
- On request, nearly all our products can be delivered with self-adhesive rear faces, enabling easy, clean and time-saving installation – perfect for retrofit applications in rooms that are already in use.
- Moreover, it was found that the blocked force could be used as a subsystem management indicator because it was independent of the connection characteristics.
- However, the noise from most hydraulic power packs can be dramatically reduced using low-cost engineering techniques that have no effect on temperature or access.
- From simple fixes like vibration pads and regular maintenance to more involved solutions like acoustic enclosures or upgrading to variable-speed pumps you now have practical options to address the problem.

By adjusting blade orientation, vibrations can be mitigated without grid power. Water hammer arrestors are devices that prevent banging sounds caused by rapid water pressure changes. They work by absorbing hydraulic shock waves within your pool plumbing system.
How can you reduce vibration and noise effectively?
Its closed cell structure makes soni RESIST especially suitable for applications where the material may come into contact with moisture or humidity. Biomimetic microstructured surfaces hold significant potential to alter the characteristics of flow fields and are actively being investigated for their role in noise reduction in the propellers of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). However, accurately measuring the noise generated by UUVs remains a challenge, which complicates the validation of noise reduction strategies and leaves the underlying mechanisms insufficiently understood. In this study, we propose a general noise measurement method for UUVs that involves identifying the main noise sources, designing noise reduction strategies, and validating their effectiveness. Experimental results indicate that the propeller is the main noise source, prompting the design of biomimetic propellers incorporating serrated edges and surface microstructures inspired by humpback whales. These biomimetic propellers are subsequently installed on a UUV for testing, and the results demonstrate a significant noise reduction of up to 6.67 dB. For ease of measurement and installation, four phononic crystals were made and arranged as shown in Figures 6 and 7. Resilient bars help to decouple heavy acoustic linings from wall or ceiling structures and allow maximum sound insulation performance to be achieved for a given addition of mass/weight. SRS Maxi Resilient Bars are a 30mm deep top hat profile and offer practical advantages over more conventional resilient bars that are secured on one side. Mitigating vibrations of a wind turbine when it is not connected to the grid to prevent damage. The method involves using stored energy to reorient the turbine blades when conditions are unfavorable for vibration buildup. If wind misalignment, high wind speed, or high vibration is detected, the turbine yaws to better align with the wind. Furthermore, the obtained results demonstrate that increasing the number of unit cell structures enhances the attenuation performance of the metastructure. This observation aligns with the principle that the longer the wave propagation path, the greater the attenuation52. The displacement fields of the proposed metastructure within the BG regions and pass bands further corroborate the existence of the reported BGs. Despite these intriguing discoveries and rapid advancements, effective control of low-frequency vibration and noise continues to pose fundamental challenges. For example, structures with multiple local resonators can generate wider BGs; nevertheless, the width of these BGs predominantly relies on the resonator’s mass and impedance mismatch. Consequently, achieving a wider bandgap (BG) necessitates larger resonating elements with material mismatch.
